Let’s Make Parks The Best They Can Be

Parks offer a place to recharge, relax and bask in the beauty of our natural world.

Thanks to your support, MendoParks has completed many impactful projects at 10 State Parks and 5 Visitors Centers in Mendocino County--- with many more in the docket!

Because of park supporters like you, we can continue working to make parks the best they can be.

Can we count on you to become a MendoParks Member and join us in keeping parks safe, accessible and thriving?

Our parks are better places thanks to your support. Thank you for making a difference-

Navarro River Redwoods State Park: Navarro Interpretive Center

Announcing! The re-opening of the historic Navarro Interpretive Center ("Captain Fletcher’s Inn") at Navarro Beach! This is the first time in the park's history that the Center will be open to the public on a regular basis.

In 2020, MendoParks took over the operation of the Center, as well as continued restoration and maintenance work. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Navarro-by-the-Sea Center, a non-profit that spearheaded the fundraising and critical restoration work at the Center for more than 20 years---saving this historic building from total desecration.

Our staff and volunteers worked extremely hard to get the Inn ready for visitors, literally peeling back the layers of history inside and outside. The building holds many treasures- from multiple layers of wallpaper in the upstairs bedrooms dating back over 150 years to original pottery and glass pieces excavated from the grounds, now on display.

The Center is now open every weekend from 11am to 4pm. Come see what we’ve been up to and help us support a great part of our Mendocino history!

Mendocino Headlands State Park

The headlands offer miles of hiking to redwoods and beach access. This year, to help keep the park paths safe and accessible, we did repairs to the Heeser fence line and maintenance to the Portuguese Beach staircase.

At the Ford House we’ve provided support for a new restroom which will feature exquisite murals from 3 contemporary Pomo artists. We’ve also given our sign a much needed facelift!

Van Damme State Park

The Fern Canyon Trail at Van Damme offers one of the most peaceful hikes on the coast. Thanks to your support, plus grant funding from the Office of Grants and Local Services, we've completed installation of new trail markers, interpretive panels, and a trail guide for kids. We completed restoration of visitor center floors, and will be completing campfire center repairs this fall.

MacKerricher State Park

MacKerricher is one of our most visited parks and keeping it maintained for visitors is a top priority.

We’ve completed many repairs to the park and campground including fence and boardwalk repairs, with upcoming campfire center repairs this summer and fall.

We have installed a premier little library (the first-ever in the California State Parks system!) by the visitor center and are designing 4 new interpretive panels in consultation with 3 Native American tribes to celebrate indigenous stories along the Mendocino Coast.
