Spring is Spring-ing!

Harbor seal mother and pup at MacKerricher State Park: Ron LeValley

Earth day, project updates and celebrating our volunteers

“It’s the most . . . wonderful time . . . of the year!”

Spring has arrived on the Mendocino Coast: The weather is (slightly) warmer, the flowers are vibrant and blooming, and the harbor seal pups are on their way (pupping season is mid-April to mid-May: stay tuned for more info!).

Celebrate this wonderful time of year by visiting your favorite park, discovering a new trail or by stopping by the Ford House Visitor Center and Museum to check out the wildflower exhibit!

Project Updates

Spring Ranch Barn

California State Parks has been working hard to finish roof repairs on the Spring Ranch barn at Van Damme State Park in Little River.

Starting March 28 and continuing for the duration, lights and fans will be operating overnight to deter our bat population from nesting during the construction. California State Parks has been working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and a local bat expert to determine the best treatment plan for these bats.

This project was made possible through California State Parks Historic Preservation funding and from generous support from MendoParks donors, especially the Little River Inn! Thanks to donations to MendoParks, we were able to fund the pre-construction surveys to make this project shovel ready and eligible for the Historic Preservation funds. Thank you to all who made this project possible!

Please respect closed areas and equipment during this work. For questions, please contact the Sonoma Mendocino Coast district office at: (707)937-5804.
